When Bone is getting rapped by"daddy glen" and her mother finally sees this and starts throwing things I felt so happy. I honestly wanted him to see that he cannot get away with doing whatever he wants. Anneys love ment so much to him and if she took that away maybe he would have had a chance at changing but no! I suppose it must be alright for the man you love to do something that awful to your daughter. I am not a mother but I would pick my kid hands down. Men are everywhere and many of them are all the same(sorry guys). But not everyone is your child and Bones needed a mother in her life. Her mother. In the end anney gives Bones her birthcertificate with the stamp off it. This made me angry as well. Her mother saw her first born child on the floor bleeding because of her husband and in the end she leaves her child with her birth certificate. She might as well have said ," I have no use for this since I did not chose you." I understand there was more to it then that and that the mother felt bad but I don't get it. What about Reese? I felt like if Bones and Reese had made a better connection things would have been at least a little better. Now Reese is gonna be away from her sister and live with someone like Glenn? I am confused by all this. Bones made a better connection with her mothers sisters then her own. Well I suppose as long as Bones is okay with her situation then everyone else might as well be too.

bone..

I like the book honestly...I wish we read it first. I am shocked at how bones was being touched by her stepfather as he was waiting for her mother to have his child . That part of the book seemed so odd..almost like you had to go back and read it to make sure it was really happening. I like Reese and I think she adds innocence to the book. I did not like it when they all moved away from their aunts and grandma that made me not like Glen even more. I think that the moment in the book where Annie and Glen leave to go on their honeymoon is more symbolic then anything."But Mama and Glen left halfway through Aunt Alma's dinner, with only one quick kiss goodbye." Before this bones talks about how her mother kept saying it was a marriage to all of them. I think this shows how Glen is going to take Annie away from her family and her kids..It shows that he has control. I understand that new couples are excited to go on the honeymoon also but the way it is placed in the book and written looks like it is trying to send out more of a message.

To A JOB well done

I think that everyone is doing a great job on their projects so far. The one that sticks out the most in my mind would be the one on rosewood because it is so odd that it was never talked about and it is a very interesting topic. I also liked the food so far but who didn't. I have noticed that the class itself mostly looks at the old south and we really do not get a feel for how the south is today. Don't get me wrong I think the history is interesting but to see it now would be interesting as well. In the movie Gone with the Wind her hoop skirt was so big. It must have been hard for the typical southern bell to walk through doorways either that or they were much larger. :) I have always wanted to see that movie and since we watched the clips in class today it made me even more excited to see it. The report on music was also interesting. For some reason when I think of Elvis I don't think of the south right away but that might just be me.
Anyways
GOOD JOB EVERYONE!

stellllllla!

I have to say that this time around the play made me pity blanch more. She honestly seems like she has nothing left but I think it seems like that so much because she depends on other people.
It is sad what happens between her and stanley and that stellla doesnt even believe it. Blanch only wanted someone to take care of her. She obviously suffered a lot of trama from having the person she loved turn out ot be gay and then kill himself. But I will say that she seemed to want people to pity her but yet perceive her as strong. Its strange because for some reason this book reminds me of another entitled "whos afraid of virgina wolf." That book also has to do with couples and people being liars but no just for the sake of lieing. Blanch lied because she thought she had to all the time.
Stanly shows his true colors in the end and they were some icky colors. The trend in many of these essays and books we read is men trying to gain power. It seems though everytime they are trying to get power over women it has to do with them having sex or beating them. They never try anything else. In my eyes that is not power and I am sure I am not the only person who thinks this.

Streetcar named drama

I like the play Streetcar named desire. I read it when I was in 10th grade in highschool and it is kinda neat to be reading it again in college. First of all I don't know what to say about Stanley and Stellas relationship. At first they appear to be this so cute couple then it seems like abusive at some points. Stella seems like she does not mind that though. Throughout the play she gets it from Stanley and from her sister. Stella strikes me as a very giving person she does so much for her husband and her sister and she doesn't seem to complain. Her sister complains about everything and is so fake its annoying. But as much as it is annoying you want to feel bad for her cause she works herself up so badly all the time. Also because she feels the need to be false instead of being who she is. Stanley is "a mans man" as men would say. It jumps from drinking to playing cards to hitting his wife then to being in love with Stella.
Overall I so think Stanley and Stella love each other very much and I think Blanch is almost jealous of that. She wants Stella to only be taking care of her not Stanley too. Stella seems to be the most grown up out of the three of them and that is not saying much since she is so dependent on both of them .
I like this play though. You can almost feel the hot nights and smell the whiskey..:)

Their eyes were watching

This book seems like a much better read then the other. They do have a lot in common but I think that the story in this book is much less confusing then Faulkner. Still as a woman it is sad to see all the power that men held and also how in the beginning how all the other women talk about you behind your back. Women should ban together not try to tear the other down. But even today that is a common thing to see.Women making fun of others because of what they wear or how they chose to live. It made the overalls stand out a lot though because they discussed them so much. The overalls are also symbolic of the type of women she is.

K.A.P

I really enjoyed reading The Grave. I thought there was a connections between showing how older people are dying and how things were changing. Almost like the past was dying out. I really like how it starts, "The grandfather, dead for more then thirty years, had been twice disturbed in his long repose by the constancy and possessiveness of his widow." (p362) She is talking about a dead body but the way she talks about it makes it seem to have life and be almost annoyed by being moved. Some of the things were a little gross . Page 366-367 is an example of it getting a little disgusting. OKay more then a little I honestly couldn't read some of it without wincing. But when they talk about the Rabbit is the part I am referring to if you could guess. But it was sad to see how Miranda was scared about it. The ending was strange too how the "sugar sweets" made her really happy. Like they just snapped her out of a really dark place. I mean I liked it but I found it really odd to have such a quick turnaround. It was almost like the writer just wanted to stop talking about it herself.

on a personal note: I have a new brother as of yesterday!yay

Tis the end of this book

Finally we are through with this book and I have to say that the last two stories were good. I like how in Delta Autumn it moved to the future where everything was changing and everyone was older. It was sad to see the woman leave with her child,a horn, and a envelope of money instead of the father of her child . It was a little funny however that she knew she was related but "Uncle Isaac" did not know until she informed him of it. I also like how at the end it was reinforced that Roth though woman were disposable when after the woman left Isaac was informed that Roth killed a doe.
In Go down, Moses we find Samuel to be on death row and is going to be killed shortly. His grandmother is informed of this and it is very sad. When Mollie talked about the pharaoh and says Edmound instead of Samuel I think it is showing her age and how she may be a little senile. I like the bond that Miss.Worsham and Mollie have and how comforting it is to Mollie to have her. Also,I think it is a bit funny(uh oh Faulkner humor) that Stevens is so uncomfortable in the situation and basically runs from the room where everyone is grieving.
These last two stories I enjoyed very much but would have to say they were really depressing. The whole book didn't really show the south in a positive view really with all the deaths and bad things that were happening but they showed the history and what it was really like. I would have to say that these last two stories were pretty good and made me like Faulkner a little more and that is saying a lot. :)

Go Down...

So this book seems like it would be really fun to read if it wasn't so confusing. I did like the switch in The Old People. It was good to get a different look at the other heritage in the South. But it was still confusing and I was sick so I missed the discussion. ..But anyways! Pantaloon in Black I felt a little odd about the mention of lynching. In high school we looked at pictures of bodies and images like those stay with you forever. So whenever I see the word lynching it makes me cringe. It is disgusting sometimes to think what humans are capable of doing to other humans. But if you think about it we still do have the death penalty so we are still killing for crimes.

Strange Fruit

Kate Chopin's "Desiree's Baby" and James Weldon Johnson, from The Autobiography of an Ex-Colored Man were two very well written pieces. I thought both were very sad in a way too. It was sad to me that the mother would kill herself because the husband didn't want her because he thought she was "not all white." She also took her child's life too and I cannot understand how a mother would do that. Also, I noticed with many of Chopin's works they leave you wondering about the story at the end. What did the husband do after he found the letter? What ever happened to the girls mother? I think maybe that's why her works are so captivating. They leave you wanting more . This one was my favorite out of all of her works we have read so far though.
In Johnson's "The Autobiography of an Ex Colored Man the boy is accepted among the white boys until the teacher points out he is not truly white. This was a little confusing to me because they had no problem with him until that point and if they can't tell then what is the problem. I thought it to be sad as well that he seemed embarrassed by it. No one should have to be embarrassed about who they are. I thought the mother had a good message for him when she said something like that. Its too bad that some people only see a color when they look at others.

In my other class we looked at these lyrics and I thought I would share them on here..

Southern trees bear strange fruit,
Blood on the leaves and blood at the root,
Black bodies swinging in the southern breeze,
Strange fruit hanging from the poplar trees.
Pastoral scene of the gallant south,
The bulging eyes and the twisted mouth,
Scent of magnolias, sweet and fresh,
Then the sudden smell of burning flesh.
Here is fruit for the crows to pluck,
For the rain to gather, for the wind to suck,
For the sun to rot, for the trees to drop,
Here is a strange and bitter crop.

I would also like to say that I wish the book we are currently reading was written more clearly because the story is pretty good as you go on:)

Man..

I thought that the Frederick Douglas piece was very eye opening. Sometimes we forget how bad the past really was. It is hard to imagine that people were so hateful back then. Not that there are not hateful people now but it is good that there are many more open minded people now. I felt that Douglas was an excellent writer and I was very interested in the reading. I was so shocked when I found out that many or all slaves never even got to learn their own birthday. I like how he stated that it was a privilege because it is something that we take for granted today about the whippings made me cringe and I cannot imagine how people could be so angry inside that they would whip a woman as she was bleeding so badly. Being without a mother must have been horrible at such a young age and not having anywhere to really sleep and nothing to really wear. I don't think many people today would last a month under those conditions.

test 123

this is just a test to make sure everything is up and running.
